Overview
SRO-tel strategic spatial conception, and “the Valerie” hospitality concept produced for Starcity Coliving’s potential occupancy of the former Bristol Hotel property in the Tenderloin of San Francisco. The Bristol Hotel was the final residence of Valerie Solanas, author of the SCUM Manifesto, notable for its inception of the paradigm as a device to critique the procedural nature of society.

A required blend of short and long term stay arrangements allows for existing tenants to retain their SRO occupancy, while the remaining units are open for hosting the new Starcity community. We identified the importance of the human history retained in these often misrepresented local communities.

This intervention contributes a heat-sensitive glass screen to protect the existing mural, framed storefront window seating that exhibits the vitality within, and an openly shared lounge “the Valerie” that presents an openly shared bar concept, openly shared cafe with services, a new mural proposed, lushly planted vertical garden and interior patio, new water feature, and butterfly garden.
